UK Standard Visitor Visa Chances for Nepali Passport Holders
What the visa costs since April 2026, where to give biometrics in Kathmandu, how long decisions take and what the grant data shows
Nepali passport holders need a visa before travelling to the United Kingdom for a holiday, family visit, business trip or short study. The route is the Standard Visitor visa, applied for online through GOV.UK with biometrics in Kathmandu. This page sets out the visa chances for Nepali applicants in 2026: the fee that rose in April 2026, required documents, processing times, and what published UK grant statistics can and cannot tell you.
The Short Answer
There is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival route for Nepali passport holders entering the United Kingdom. The Standard Visitor visa covers tourism, family visits, business activity, short study up to six months and private medical treatment. Because our own dataset does not include Nepal, we rely on the official framework: an online application, a fee of £135 for up to six months, biometrics at a UK Visa Application Centre, and a decision normally within three weeks. Two, five and ten-year visas cost more and give multiple six-month entries.
Who Must Apply and Where
Every Nepali national applies online before travelling:
- Apply on GOV.UK — complete the Standard Visitor form and prepare your documents.
- Pay the fee online in pounds or the equivalent in Nepali rupees.
- Book a biometrics appointment at a UK Visa Application Centre in Kathmandu through VFS Global.
- Attend in person to give fingerprints and a photograph, and hand over your passport.
- Receive the decision once UK Visas and Immigration has assessed the file.
Apply from Nepal or a country where you are legally present, at least three weeks before travel.
Required Documents
There is no published fixed checklist, but these are the documents a visitor application is assessed on:
| Document | What it must show |
|---|---|
| Passport | Current passport plus earlier passports |
| Application and photograph | Completed online form and a compliant photo |
| Bank statements | Three to six months of regular income |
| Employment or business proof | Employer letter, or registration and accounts |
| Accommodation | Hotels or a host's invitation with their UK status |
| Travel plans | Return flight reservation and a brief itinerary |
| Sponsorship | A relative's statements and sponsor letter where applicable |
| Ties to Nepal | Property, family, study or ongoing employment |
Documents not in English or Welsh need a certified translation.
Fees and Costs
UK visitor fees were last raised on 8 April 2026, taking the standard fee from £127 to £135. Rates are mid-market reference values for early October 2026 (1 GBP = 1.3242 USD; 1 GBP ≈ 215.9 NPR).
| Visa | Fee (GBP) | Approx. USD | Approx. NPR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Visitor, up to 6 months | £135 | $179 | NPR 29,147 |
| 2-year Standard Visitor | £506 | $670 | NPR 109,245 |
| 5-year Standard Visitor | £903 | $1,196 | NPR 194,958 |
| 10-year Standard Visitor | £1,128 | $1,494 | NPR 243,535 |
| Priority service (optional) | £500 | $662 | NPR 107,950 |
| Super priority service (optional) | £1,000 | $1,324 | NPR 215,900 |
The fee is not refunded if the visa is refused. Priority and super priority are optional speed upgrades offered at some centres and not guaranteed at all times.
Processing Time
GOV.UK publishes a standard three-week processing guidance for visitor applications and advises applying no later than three weeks before travel. Priority services shorten the decision where your centre offers them.
| Service | Typical guidance |
|---|---|
| Standard service | About 3 weeks from biometrics |
| Priority service | Faster, where offered at the centre |
| Super priority service | Fastest, where offered at the centre |
Approval Odds and Refusal Context
Home Office entry clearance statistics for the year ending June 2026 record 2,744,848 visitor visa applications and 2,185,158 grants, an overall visitor grant rate of 80%. Nationality breakdowns in the same release include Türkiye at about 90%, Russia about 93% and India about 82%. Nepal does not appear in the published top-20 nationality tables, so no Nepal-specific grant rate is available from that source.
| Figure | Value | Source and year |
|---|---|---|
| Visitor applications, YE June 2026 | 2,744,848 | Home Office entry clearance tables, 2026 |
| Visitor visas granted, YE June 2026 | 2,185,158 | Home Office entry clearance tables, 2026 |

House of Commons Library research (CBP-10695, 5 June 2026) shows how far grant rates vary by nationality across 2021 to 2024 — from 99.4% for United Arab Emirates applicants down to 29% for Chad.
Application Tips
- Show three to six months of statements where salary and regular outgoings are visible, not a single balance screenshot.
- Explain any large deposit — a short note identifying it as savings, a gift or a loan removes the doubt.
- Be exact about who pays; a UK-based sponsor must supply their invitation, status documents and bank statements.
- Apply early in one complete upload, declaring all travel history, since split submissions invite requests for further information.
