Canada Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) allows tourism, family visits, and short business trips. This checklist covers the online application through IRCC, biometrics, and document submission.

Step 1: Check eligibility on IRCC website

Visit canada.ca/immigration. Use the Come to Canada tool to confirm your eligibility. Check if you need a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

Step 2: Create IRCC account

Register for a MyAccount on the IRCC portal. Use GCKey or Sign-In Partner. This account is your central hub for all applications and status updates.

Step 3: Complete application forms

Fill out the IMM 5257 (Application for Visitor Visa) and IMM 5645 (Family Information). Download, complete, and validate the forms using Adobe Reader.

Step 4: Gather supporting documents

Passport, photos (50x70mm), financial proof (CAD 2,500+ per person recommended), employment letter, travel history, invitation letter if visiting family, and travel itinerary.

Step 5: Pay fees and submit

Pay CAD 100 for visitor visa plus CAD 85 for biometrics. Submit all documents through the IRCC portal. Download the confirmation of submission.

Step 6: Give biometrics

Book a biometrics appointment at a designated Visa Application Centre (VAC) within 30 days of submission. Biometrics are valid for 10 years.

Step 7: Track application

Monitor your application in IRCC MyAccount. Standard processing is 30-90 days. Respond promptly to any additional document requests.

Step 8: Submit passport

When requested, submit your passport to the VAC for visa stamping. Use the prepaid return courier service. Processing takes 1-2 weeks.

Step 9: Review visa and prepare travel

Check the visa validity and conditions. Multiple-entry TRVs are standard. Book your flights and prepare for your trip to Canada.
