Canada Visitor Visa for Turkish Citizens: 2026 Chances Guide

TRV fees, Istanbul and Ankara biometrics, the study route and honest refusal context

Home / Guides / Canada Visa Chances Türkiye

Last updated: October 7, 2026. Canada draws Turkish visitors, families and a large student cohort every year, so the question we hear most is what the real visa chances are for Turkish applicants. Türkiye is not visa-exempt, so almost every trip starts with a temporary resident visa at CAD 100 plus biometrics — and the global refusal rate sits at 51 percent for 2025, with study permits refused at 59 percent. This page covers both routes, documents, costs, timing and what those numbers mean for a Turkish file.

Verdict: Visa required; visitor visa. Reference data for the Turkish passport reads “Visa required; visitor visa” — type visa, zero visa-free days, so there is no eTA shortcut for Turkish ordinary passports and even air transit needs a visa. Tourism, business and family visits use the temporary resident visa at CAD 100 plus CAD 85 biometrics, while study needs a separate study permit at CAD 150. Apply online through IRCC with biometrics at a Visa Application Centre in Istanbul or Ankara.

The Verdict

Our reference entry codes the Türkiye to Canada pairing as visa required, zero visa-free days. Turkish ordinary passport holders are not eligible for an Electronic Travel Authorisation, so the visitor visa — the temporary resident visa, or TRV — is mandatory before travel, including for transit through a Canadian airport. The visa is usually issued as a multiple-entry document valid to passport or biometrics expiry, with the length of each stay decided at the port of entry, normally up to six months.

Study is a separate track with its own permit, fee and refusal dynamics. A visitor visa cannot be quietly converted into study after arrival; the study permit must generally be secured before travel.

Who Must Apply and Where

Turkish residents apply online through an IRCC account, then give biometrics in person at a Visa Application Centre in Istanbul or Ankara after receiving the biometric instruction letter. Children, workers and students each need their own application, and family members can be grouped so the fee caps apply.

Everyone on an ordinary Turkish passport needs prior permission: tourists, business visitors, transiting passengers and students. Prior refusals from Canada or allies must be declared.

Required Documents

IRCC officers assess funds, purpose and ties on paper before any interview, so the upload quality decides most cases.

DocumentRuleWhy officers refuse it
PassportValid for the whole trip; include all old passportsNew booklet with no history and no explanation
IRCC formsIMM 5257 and family information, signed and consistentAnswers that contradict the bank or job evidence
PhotographTo IRCC current specification, recentOld photo, wrong size, heavy editing
Financial proofStatements, salary slips, tax records with source trailLump sums with no provenance, balances divorced from income
Employment and tiesJob letter with leave, property, family, business papersNo verifiable reason to return to Türkiye
Travel planItinerary, hotel and flight outlines, invitation if visiting familyNo plan at all, or a plan no tourist would follow
Study extrasLetter of acceptance, provincial attestation, tuition evidenceAcceptance without funds, or funds without a study logic

Bank statements should show regular income over months, not a single engineered balance. Anything large and recent needs a paper trail attached without being asked.

Fees and Costs

One processing fee per person, plus biometrics where required. All figures in Canadian dollars from the IRCC fee list.

ItemAmountNotes
Visitor visa, per personCAD 100Single or multiple entry; officer decides the type
Visitor visa, family of 5 or moreCAD 500 maximumApplying together at the same time and place
Biometrics, per personCAD 85Once per 10 years; family maximum CAD 170
Study permit, per personCAD 150Separate track with its own assessment
VAC service chargeSet by the centrePaid at the application centre for handling and transmission
Refused or withdrawn casesFees not refundedBudget per application, not per approval

Students add tuition deposits, medical exams and translations on top, so the true first-year cost starts well above the permit fee. Fee detail sits in our Canada visa fee 2026 page.

Processing Time

IRCC publishes service estimates that move with volume, so check the official processing tool on the day you apply. The sequence is application, biometric instruction letter, enrolment within 30 days, then assessment. Apply two to three months before a visit and four to six months before a study term, and keep travel bookings refundable until the passport request arrives.

Approval Odds and Refusal Context

IRCC publishes a global refusal rate, not one by nationality, so there is no official Turkish TRV refusal rate to quote. The global figures still set expectations: the temporary resident visa refusal rate was 51 percent for 2025 year-to-date against 50 percent for the same period in 2024 and 39 percent for all of 2023, with 889,000 TRVs approved to the end of August 2025. Study permits are tougher still, refused at 59 percent across January to December 2025 versus 52 percent in 2024.

Turkish files live or die on the same test: provable ties to Türkiye, funds with a source trail, and a purpose that matches the profile. Students face an extra layer — study logic, language readiness and funds for tuition plus living costs. Timing context sits in our Canada processing time 2026 page.

Tips to Strengthen the Application

  • Prove you will leave. Job, property, family and business in Türkiye belong on page one of the narrative, not in an annex.
  • Season the bank account. Months of salary-shaped deposits beat a last-minute balance every time.
  • Explain large movements. Attach the sale, bonus or loan paper before the officer has to wonder.
  • Students: make the study logical. The course should visibly follow from past study or work, with language scores to match.
  • Declare prior refusals. Canada shares data with close allies; an old refusal explained is a small issue, one discovered is a big one.
  • Apply in the quiet window. File visitor cases outside the summer peak and study cases the moment the acceptance and attestation arrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Turkish citizens need a visa for Canada in 2026?
Yes. Türkiye is not visa-exempt, so Turkish ordinary passport holders need a temporary resident visa for visits, business and transit. There is no eTA option for Turkish passports.
How much does a Canada visitor visa cost from Türkiye?
CAD 100 per person for the visa plus CAD 85 per person for biometrics, with a CAD 500 cap for families of five or more applying together. A study permit is a separate CAD 150. Fees are not refunded if refused.
Where do Turkish applicants give biometrics for Canada?
At a Visa Application Centre in Istanbul or Ankara after applying online through IRCC and receiving the biometric instruction letter. Enrolment is due within 30 days of the letter.
Can Turkish students get a Canada study permit in 2026?
Yes, with a letter of acceptance, a provincial attestation letter, tuition resources and living-cost funds. Expect tough screening: IRCC refused 59 percent of study permit applications across 2025.
What are the approval chances for Turkish applicants?
IRCC publishes only a global refusal rate, 51 percent for temporary resident visas in 2025 year-to-date, with no Türkiye-specific figure. Individual outcomes turn on ties to Türkiye, fund provenance and purpose clarity.
