Schengen Visa Chances for Turkish Passport Holders 2026
Refusal data, fees, application centres and the document habits that separate approvals from refusals for applicants in Turkiye
Last updated: October 5, 2026. Turkish passport holders ask one question more than any other: what are my schengen visa chances from Turkey? The European Commission's 2024 tables count 1,173,917 applications lodged in Türkiye with a 14.5 percent refusal rate. This page covers the verdict, where to file, documents, costs, timing and what the statistics do not tell you.
The Verdict
Our reference entry codes the Turkish passport requirement as visa required, zero visa-free days. Every trip of up to 90 days — tourism, business, medical travel, family visits — needs a visa sticker issued by a Schengen consulate in Türkiye before you fly. There is no on-arrival option and no travel authorisation that substitutes for it.
The visa sets your own ceiling. First-timers usually receive single entry for their itinerary; holders of compliant prior visas can request multiple entry for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years under the Visa Code's progressive rules — Germany granted multi-entry visas in 89.8 percent of its 2024 decisions. The 90/180 clock applies from the day you enter.
Who Must Apply and Where
Jurisdiction follows the main destination: the member state where you spend the most nights decides, and if two are equal the first one you enter decides. Inventing an itinerary to reach a "friendlier" consulate is misrouting — itself a refusal ground.
Lodging is outsourced across Türkiye, and the EU delegation in Ankara publishes the list. iDATA accepts files for Germany and Italy; VFS Global handles France, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland from 18 centres in 11 cities; BLS takes Spain and Slovakia, Kosmos Greece.
Required Documents
The harmonised Annex II list is the baseline; each consulate adds its own twists, so check the destination's checklist first.
| Document | Rule | Why officers reject it |
|---|---|---|
| Passport | Last 10 years, valid 3 months beyond return, two blank pages | Short validity or a full booklet |
| Application form | Completed online in VIDEX format and signed | Unsigned or mismatched dates |
| Photograph | Biometric, 35 x 45 mm, taken in the last 6 months | Old photos or glasses that obscure features |
| Travel medical insurance | EUR 30,000 cover for the whole Schengen area plus repatriation | Cover below the minimum |
| Itinerary and accommodation | Day-by-day plan with verifiable bookings | Whirlwind itineraries, fake bookings |
| Financial proof | Three to six months of statements with salary credits | Unexplained lump sums or low balances |
| Ties to Türkiye | Employment letter, leave approval, property or lease | No job letter and no reason to return |
Fees and Costs
Two payments, never one: the EU consular fee, and the provider's local service fee.
| Item | Amount | Turkish lira equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Schengen fee, adult (12+) | EUR 90 | About 4,980 TL at roughly 55.3 TL per euro |
| Schengen fee, child 6-11 | EUR 45 | About 2,490 TL |
| Schengen fee, under 6 | Free | 0 TL |
| iDATA service fee (Germany, Italy) | 2,229 TL from age 6 | Paid by card when registering |
| VFS Global service fee | Varies by mission, about EUR 10-40 | France 30 EUR, Netherlands 26 EUR, Belgium 1,165 TL |
| Optional extras | Premium lounge, courier, photo | Never affect the decision |
The fee is non-refundable if you are refused. Compare country totals in our Schengen visa cost 2026 guide.
Processing Time
You may lodge as early as 6 months before travel and should not leave it inside 15 calendar days of departure. Once a complete file is admissible, the Visa Code requires a decision within 15 calendar days, extendable to 45 days where documents need verification. Add two to six working days for provider transfer and courier return. The bottleneck is the appointment, not the decision — Istanbul summer slots go first. Fingerprints stay valid for 59 months.
Approval Odds and Refusal Context
In the European Commission's 2024 dataset — the most recent complete set, published in May 2025 — Türkiye lodged 1,173,917 applications and 14.5 percent were refused, down from 16.1 percent in 2023, against a worldwide refusal rate of 14.8 percent across 11.7 million filings. Roughly 85 of every 100 decisions for Turkish applicants ended in issuance.
That average hides what decides your case. Deciding-state strictness ranged from Malta at 38.5 percent to Iceland at 6.6 percent, and France refused 15.8 percent of its 3.07 million decisions. High-refusal caseloads such as Bangladesh (54.9 percent) show what consulates punish: thin files, not nationalities. No consulate publishes an individual prediction, and VFS and iDATA both state that no agent can influence a decision. Full dataset: our Schengen rejection rate 2026 page.
Tips to Strengthen the Application
- Route honestly. Count nights, pick the main destination, and put that arithmetic in your cover letter.
- Season your money. Three months of statements showing salary credits beats a balance certificate; explain odd deposits in one line.
- Prove the return. Employment letter with approved leave, plus property or family evidence — see our proving ties guide.
- Insure properly. EUR 30,000 minimum covering every day plus two buffer days; print the coverage page.
- Apply early, avoid agents. Book free official appointments and never pay for "influence" that does not exist.
