The Verdict
Our reference entry codes the Philippine passport requirement for the United States as visa required, zero visa-free days. Tourism, business meetings, medical treatment and family visits all require a B-1/B-2 visa issued by a US embassy or consulate before departure. There is no electronic travel authorisation that a Philippine passport can use instead.
The visa controls entry, not length of stay. Approvals are usually issued as multiple entry for up to 10 years, but the officer at the airport decides how long you may remain, commonly six months. Each trip should still be supported by current documents.
Who Must Apply and Where
Applicants in the Philippines interview in Manila, where two separate appointments are required: the Visa Application Centre for fingerprints and photograph, then the US Embassy for the interview. Both need the DS-160 confirmation page with its barcode.
Filipinos legally resident elsewhere normally apply in their country of residence rather than Manila. Applicants under 14 or over 79 are generally exempt from the interview, and renewals within 12 months of expiry may qualify for interview waiver drop-off.

Processing Time
Timing in Manila is driven by the interview slot, not the decision. Applications are approved or refused verbally at the interview, and passports are usually returned within three to five working days after approval through the delivery service. Current published Manila B-1/B-2 appointment wait is about seven days, well below the peaks seen in 2022 and 2023 — but slot availability moves weekly. Fill the DS-160 first, book the VAC and interview together, then assemble the documents.

- Answer the question asked. Officers want a short, consistent account of purpose and length of stay.
- Anchor the job. A certificate of employment with dates, salary and approved leave is the single strongest document.
- Show the pattern. Previous visas, travel history and prior US trips, if any, should be declared, never omitted.
- Explain family ties. Dependents, property and business at home belong in the answer, not in a document dump.
- Keep the DS-160 honest. Everything said at the interview must match the form already on file.
- Apply early, avoid agents. The fee is fixed, the form is free, and no fixer can influence an American officer.
